But on to the main event of the week - Thursday 9 August 2012 and our trip to the London Olympics. The day dawned bright and very early as we caught the 6.41 train to London. We were in our seats at the Olympic Stadium by 8.45 and ready and waiting for the action. Now considering our session wasn't going to be the most exciting (to be fair) the stadium was pretty full. We were up in the gods opposite the Olympic flame but still had a pretty good view. Most of our session was taken up by the decathlon and the women's high jump which unfortunately had no Team GB athletes in by this stage. However the stadium came alive for the 4 x 400m relay heats. I don't think I have ever heard such an incredible noise for the 3 minutes of that relay. You could scream your loudest and not be heard - it was amazing.
We left the stadium about 2ish as it was pole vaulting until 4 and the girls had got a bit bored. The rest of the day we mostly spent in front of the big screen in the middle of the river along with some wandering around the fantastic Olympic Park - it's amazing structures and beautiful gardens were awe inspiring. We were lucky enough to witness 3 x Team GB Olympic Gold medals on the big screen (all women - go girls!) and a visit by Sir Chris Hoy. The weather was beautiful and we even splashed out on a beer in the sun - perfick!
Seriously I am so glad that we got to go to London 2012 - such an amazing atmosphere and I should mention all the wonderful and relentlessly cheerful volunteers. It was a very long day but definitely one I shall never forget. Proud to be British!
Oh and choosing a photo from the 164 I took was nigh on impossible so I have done another Olympic post here with lots more pics - but here is the one I chose to represent the day!
